Amazing Dog Training Results!! In Only One Lesson

Meet Achilles and his owners:

We were to the point of thinking about giving Achilles away, because we couldn’t take him for walks without fighting with him the whole time, he wasn’t aloud outside by himself because he would run right over to the neighbors house, and ignore us when we call him back.  We would have to put him in his crate before we have guests because he would jump up, and be constantly at them,  among other issues.
Then we thought what if we had a child that wasn’t doing what he was told and acted like he ruled the house would we give him away too?  We began to look for an alternative solution.
After the first 10-15 min in the intro class, Duke Ferguson from Unleashed Potential K9  worked with Achilles.

We could not believe the difference, he wasn’t pulling on the leash, he was paying attention to what was going on, he was obeying commands.  By the end of the session, Achilles would come and sit when told by us and the three kids.  Now at home, he stays beside me when working him, comes and sits when told and he lays down when told. This is only since our first lesson.
For the first time in months we are happy to have a dog, we enjoy working with him and seeing the changes and it has only been two days so far.

A few of my favourite things

Posted on Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

Daily I am asked by clients about different products I personally use with my own dogs. So it got me thinking, why not make a quick post about some of my favourite things in the world of dogs.

I hope you all enjoy.

The Chuck-it!

I literally don’t know how I survived for years without owning one. For years before I had heard about them I would use a frizbee, or a tennis ball which was never good for my arms, or back. Gone are those days, and now I use the Chuck-it on a day to day basis, often times 3-4 times a day.

The Kong!

The kong has been around for decades and for most dogs will last many, many years. The concept is to put kibble, treats, fruit and such in this toy and allow your dog to lick and chew at the toy to get it out. I use them often when I leave the house, if the dogs are staying home, I will load the kongs with peanut butter and that will keep them focused for about 30-45 minutes. Some dogs like my lab just love to play with it, regardless if it has anything tasty inside. I highly recommend buying a kong or two, if you don’t already own one.

The slow feeding bowl!

The idea behind this bowl is very simple, this bowl has compartments built into it to slow down eating. When a dog is eating it’s kibble, it has to work at getting the kibble without grabbing large mouths full of food and swallowing it down too fast.

Not all dogs eat very quickly, however some dogs are voracious eaters, and this can cause digestive problems, the worst of which is most often seen in deep chested dogs. It’s called canine bloat. Canine bloat is more often then not fatal and is often caused by dogs eating food to quickly.

Zinger Winger Crates!

Personally I own four Zinger Winger crates. Crating is a great way to prevent dogs from destroying things around the house when you are not home. Young dogs naturally chew, so crating is a great option for them, as we can give them something to do while they have some crate time. I use them in my truck, so that if I jam on the breaks rapidly I don’t have to worry about a dog going threw the windshield. Zinger Winger in a Canadian company based in Ontario, and they have great quality products. I like these crates because they are easy to assemble and are made or aluminum, which does not rust, they are lightweight, and very durable.

The Furmintor!

For many years I was told about how amazing the Furminator was, and honestly, I didn’t really believe all the hype. Until I was at a pet store one day and I decided to replace my old brush with the Furminator. They are not cheap, but WOW are they amazing. My wife and I very rarely need to sweep our house anymore because this product does a great job of getting to the undercoat. My dogs even find it soothing which is a bonus. I highly push this product!

Tyson the boxer!

Our dog Tyson:

We adopted a 2 year old Boxer named Tyson, he was “free”. Nothing in life is free, and Tyson was no exception. He came with a host of problems, skin allergies, separation anxiety, no manners, dog aggression and above all Tyson was a nightmare to walk! Tyson also thought kennels were for other dogs, not him. Tyson’s only redeeming qualities were he was really cute and he didn’t chew shoes.

I still remember writing my first email to Ted of Unleashed Potential; I had been home alone with our little treasure for two days and I was at the end of my rope. Ted responded immediately, much to my relief. We set up a date for Ted to assess Tyson and he brought his well mannered Belgian Shepherd, BB to show what a well trained dog was capable of. We were very impressed with Ted’s philosophies and BB’s manners, so we decided Ted would be our dog trainer.

We decided on lifetime enrolment as the thought of having support at whatever stage Tyson was at in his life was a big bonus. So the lessons started and progressed very quickly, Ted is a very knowledgeable and humane trainer. He always answered my calls for support and made the training fun for both us and Tyson. Ted went to great lengths to insure we were doing well between visits and was very supportive and encouraging.

Tyson has come a long way since our first lesson 12 weeks ago, his manners are much improved, he runs to his kennel when asked and I can walk him by myself without fear of being pulled off my feet. His dog aggressive tendencies have been greatly diminished and he is a pleasure to take anywhere.

We are now attending group classes on Saturday afternoon, because we love to socialize with other dogs and their owners. Ted has helped us turn our misfit into a wonderful companion. Ted we cannot thank you enough for all your guidance, support and assistance. This company offered us a solution, where other trainers could not.

We think You Guys Are The Best!

Sincerely

Sue, Brent and Tyson
