Marly, a rescued doberman, is a dog like hundreds of others I have worked with. She had a hard life before being adopted.
Her sister unfortunately was euthanized for human aggression. As Marly matured, her owners took her to dog training classes and put in a lot of time and patience.
Unfortunately Marly continued to get worst. In one of those classes she was bit by another dog, creating more fear.
Her owners then called the shelter they got her from, only to be told to bring her back so they could euthanize her the next day.
This is not what any shelter wishes to do I am sure, but because of liabilities, they booked the appointment.
Shaun, Marly’s dad called me that day in tears, not wanting to put his dog down.
I told him to cancel the appointment, and that I would be able to rehabilitate his dog. He was skeptical, which is understandable considering the 20 lessons they had already done with another trainer, with very limited results.
They came in for an evaluation, I told them the good news, Marly was absolutely salvageable! And she was!
Four private lessons later, Marly is still alive, and thriving.
She will be transitioning into our group classes soon, and will have a lifetime of support to help her along the way.
