He didn’t know it yet, but Fergus had eaten his last cake off of the kitchen counter when I contacted Duke! We had tried group lessons and our own training efforts with no success, with every passing day we were feeling more hopeless and frustrated with Fergus’ behavior. Duke had been recommended to us, and we were not disappointed! From the very first lesson Duke had us feeling more positive and in control in our relationship with Fergus. With every lesson, Duke not only showed us how to train Fergus effectively, but more importantly, he trained us to be more effective owners. This has given us a new beginning with Fergus and the promise of a long and happy life together. Pomeranian, Chiklet

Have you ever heard of a Pomeranian that doesn’t bark, bite, or chase kids driving by on bikes? Thanks to the Unleashed Potential K-9 Academy Chiklet does none of these things. When I bought her she was an energetic puppy who needed a high level of motivation. Before she was four months old I met with Duke to see if he could help me and my problematic puppy. At this time, she was to young for formal obedience so I enrolled her in puppy education. This was absolutely valuable as it set up the foundation for her obedience training that was to follow. We went through both level 1 and 2 training (on and off leash) and every break through that I made with Chiklet was more rewarding than the last. She was transformed into a brand new dog by the end of the training with Duke. Her temperament was much more submissive, and her willingness to please me took priority over outside distractions.

This summer I took Chiklet back to training for some touch up hints, from Duke, because she was testing her limits with me. Within a week of using the new collar my dog was obeying me better than ever before. She will do everything she can to please me and because of it we have a more positive relationship. Today, for instance, we walked the full length of the Charlottetown boardwalk, completely off leash, and played fetch in the park. She payed no attention to baby carriages, walkers, joggers, bikers, dogs, or people on sitting on the benches. An elderly couple on the bench sure noticed Chiklet though. When they saw her they said “now that’s a well trained dog.” Thank you Duke. You CAN train any dog.

Elizabeth Murray and her daughters with Abby

It has been a year since we finished Abby’s training with Duke. Before we started, one-year-old Abby was all over the place, romping through the house and pulling on the leash. We couldn’t walk her and she dug up the lawn. In a short time, with Duke’s help, all of our family (including girls aged 9 and 7) were able to walk her without a struggle. She learned what is expected of her and needs just “heel” to get back on track. It is an absolute pleasure to walk and jog with her. She is a beautiful dog with lots of love to give and I’m so proud of her. We can walk by barking dogs, people, traffic and noisy machinery, and if she turns her head toward the distraction all I have to say is heel and she is on track. Thanks, Duke! It took me a year to write this short note, but we haven’t forgotten how you helped us turn frustration into love for this great girl!

Amy, Chad and HK, deaf dog

On August 9th of 2007, Chad and myself had adopted Helen Keller
(H.K.), a 2-3 year old deaf boxer/American bulldog mix. We knew that training her was going to be a challenge but we didn’t realise how much. We figured a couple of hand signals and we would be on our way. However, this proved to be a little more difficult than we had expected. She is a very energetic dog and initially we had no idea how to communicate with her. At times, it was very frustrating being in the same room with her, as she was always chewing on things and even jumping on the living room table.
After having called a few different trainers it started to sound like she was going to be limited to a leash for the rest of her life. This is not something that we wanted for her! It was at this point that we contacted Duke. It was apparent in the intro session with Duke that this was going to be the way to train H.K. We were able to set-up goals with Duke; one of which was being able to have her off a leash and still be in control of her. With a lot of practice we began meeting these goals quickly. After a couple weeks, H.K. was a different dog all together and we are now able to enjoy her a lot more! Just about everyone that sees her comments on how obedient and attentive she is. Throughout the training, Duke has been a great help, even calling to see how H.K. is doing and seeing if we have any questions. You can really tell that he does care about his work and clients. When I have any questions or concerns I know that I can always call him to get a prompt answer.

Thanks Duke, it is true that you can train any dog……..even deaf dogs!!!
