Proven Results: Only One Dog Training Lesson With Unleashed Potential

I always Love to see the look on peoples faces when they come for their first lesson and they are amazed in how much success they get in just the first 10 – 20 minutes especially if they have seen other dog trainers. It is a part of my job that I love!

Here is an email I got from our last nights lesson. See below:

“Last night was our first dog training lesson at Unleashed Potential K9 training In Stratford PEI with Duke Ferguson, and it was a HUGE SUCCESS!! 🙂
We went into last night with a dog who pulled on his leash, followed his hound nose and didn’t always come when he was called. The dog we left with after the lesson would stay by your side, responded when you said his name and came when he was called. He responded very well to Duke and his methods of training.
We have had Desmond for almost 2 years and have tried a couple different trainers trying to find the right fit for us, our dog and what he responds to. Last night consultation/lesson was the first time Desmond responded to and worked with someone other than my husband and I, he always seemed timid of other trainers but with Duke, Desmond warmed up to him quickly and we were able to start our training right away and didn’t have to wait for Desmond to adjust to another human.
We found last night very informative, and can’t wait to go back to our next lesson. We are looking forward to having a dog we can take with us where ever we go and not have to worry about him misbehaving around strangers and eventually children in and out of our home. Thank You Duke!! “

Amazing Dog Training Results!! In Only One Lesson

Meet Achilles and his owners:

We were to the point of thinking about giving our dog Achilles away, because we couldn’t take him for walks without fighting with him the whole time, he wasn’t aloud outside by himself because he would run right over to the neighbors house, and ignore us when we call him back. We would have to put him in his crate before we have guests because he would jump up, and be constantly at them, among other issues.
Then we thought what if we had a child that wasn’t doing what he was told and acted like he ruled the house would we give him away too? We began to look for an alternative solution.
After the first 10-15 min in the intro class, Duke Ferguson from Unleashed Potential K9 worked with Achilles.

We could not believe the difference, he wasn’t pulling on the leash, he was paying attention to what was going on, he was obeying commands. By the end of the session, Achilles would come and sit when told by us and the three kids. Now at home, he stays beside me when working him, comes and sits when told and he lays down when told. This is only since our first lesson.
For the first time in months we are happy to have a dog, we enjoy working with him and seeing the changes and it has only been two days so far.

Husky OFFLEASH TRAINED: Unleashed Potential K9, PEI

Cleo, my husky, and I have been attending Unleashed Potential since April, 2010. Cleo was 5-years-old at the time and was becoming increasingly aggressive towards other dogs, was not recalling very well when off leash, and was food-aggressive with other animals (both cats and dogs). Although she was never aggressive towards our children, I was fearful that an incident may occur and wanted some concrete training to correct her existing problematic behaviour and prevent future aggressive incidents.

I was satisfied after my initial consultation at Duke’s straightforward and common-sense approach to dog behaviour. His experience and knowledge immediately came through as we discussed a plan and what was expected of myself as her owner. As a mother of 2 young children aged 5-months and 3 1/2-years, and completing a MSc at the same time, my time was limited, but I could do a lot of mini-training sessions at home in my “spare-time”. I could also attend the Stratford obedience group every other week to reinforce our training sessions at home. Saturdayclasses82

She responded well and adhered to commands. With time she got better, and we did drills with food and other animals to modify her behaviour and reduce aggression.

Although we have advanced a great deal, there is always more to learn. I enjoy the group sessions as I continue to learn ways to improve her behaviour and train myself to train her. There are ample opportunities to ask questions specific to Cleo, and they are answered or addressed in classes or sooner in an e-mail or phone call.

I am thrilled with what I’ve been able to do with Cleo. She now enjoys regular walks, often off-leash as I have confidence she will come back. I know Duke’s classes have also fostered a better bond between Cleo and I. I fear that if I had not gotten assistance soon, Cleo may have had to been euthanized as her aggression may have escalated. I am fortunate that I was able to prevent that possibility, and enjoy a great relationship in the process.

There is no deadline and perfection is not the goal. This is a life-long process for dog and owner that focuses on on-going maintenance. I truly look forward to each group-session and walk with Cleo.

Shih Tzus, Tanner and Cooper

Duke,
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all your help. When I came to you my 2 shih tzus (Tanner 6 and Cooper 2) were running my house. I was at my wits end!!! They barked constantly(especially when people came to the door), jumped all over people, pulled on the leash during walks, 1 had aggression issues and barked and nipped us when he wanted to play. Life at home was not pleasant at all.

You were my last hope for these dogs and I put off calling you because if it didn’t work the dogs probably had to go!! I had been to obedience class with my oldest dog Tanner and he graduated top of the class. He was perfect in class but when we got home he turned into a nightmare again. I also tried choke chains, prong collars and no pull harnesses… none worked and I felt horrible using them.

Then you arrived on my doorstep and changed our lives. Within the first 10 minutes the dogs had their collars on they were healing loose leash and staying while one of your dogs ran in front of them… I was amazed and even had a tear of relief in my eye.

It has now been 9 months since we started training and we have been doing great. We have had a few bumps along the way but each time I would e-mail you and most times within minutes you replied with a new idea for me to try or corrected what I was doing wrong. That to me is the best part. You are always there with ideas, support and help. The dogs and I love going to group class, it is so much fun!!

Now in the morning when I get the collars out both dogs are sitting at my feet with tails wagging. For anyone that thinks the collars are cruel, my dogs now get to go places they never could before, walk without coughing and gagging from pulling, enjoy having company instead of wanting to eat them, play outside off leash and get lots of exercise and are SO loved!! When we are put walking people constantly comment on what good dogs I have.

Duke, we are SO lucky to have you living in P.E.I. I have total faith in you and thank you from the bottom of my heart. To anyone thinking of training with Duke…. DO IT you won’t regret it!!!

Amy, Chad and HK, deaf dog

On August 9th of 2007, Chad and myself had adopted Helen Keller
(H.K.), a 2-3 year old deaf boxer/American bulldog mix. We knew that training her was going to be a challenge but we didn’t realise how much. We figured a couple of hand signals and we would be on our way. However, this proved to be a little more difficult than we had expected. She is a very energetic dog and initially we had no idea how to communicate with her. At times, it was very frustrating being in the same room with her, as she was always chewing on things and even jumping on the living room table.
After having called a few different trainers it started to sound like she was going to be limited to a leash for the rest of her life. This is not something that we wanted for her! It was at this point that we contacted Duke. It was apparent in the intro session with Duke that this was going to be the way to train H.K. We were able to set-up goals with Duke; one of which was being able to have her off a leash and still be in control of her. With a lot of practice we began meeting these goals quickly. After a couple weeks, H.K. was a different dog all together and we are now able to enjoy her a lot more! Just about everyone that sees her comments on how obedient and attentive she is. Throughout the training, Duke has been a great help, even calling to see how H.K. is doing and seeing if we have any questions. You can really tell that he does care about his work and clients. When I have any questions or concerns I know that I can always call him to get a prompt answer.

Thanks Duke, it is true that you can train any dog……..even deaf dogs!!!
