I want to thank you for all the work you have done in helping me to train princess. It is greatly appreciated. After two weeks I could see a big difference in her. As you know, she is a strong willed dog, but through your training, I have been able to gain the control I need to handle her. It took some time, but she knows her place in the family, and is content, and always looking for ways to please. You have my highest recommendation, and I have told numerous friends about your work. Tara Birt & Dominant Oliver

My Oliver is a very smart, energetic and affectionate dog. However, he was becoming increasingly dominant, destructive and aggressive. Most stories I heard about dog training were ones of disappointment and little results, therefore, I had little faith in dog trainers in general. I wanted a dog trainer who would give one on one training – giving my dog the attention he needed and the instructions I needed. When I called Duke I was impressed by his knowledge and very pleased with his reassurance and honesty. I was further impressed that his training is one on one. Our first meeting with Duke was interesting, Oliver not only peed on the floor twice, but also on Duke’s coat (Sorry Duke). By the end of our first session Oliver was sitting at my side contently. We had a few bumps along the way, but Oliver responded very well to the training and after only five weeks Oliver is now obedient, a pleasure to take for a walk, does not jump all over our guests and most importantly he understands my commands and is eager to please me.

Sara Cotton with Massi

I called Duke from Ontario where I had been in some variation of clicker training with my dog Massi for a year. I had one month in PEI, which would be the deciding month for my husky cross, who was a rescue. A veterinarian had told me that the dog should have only been adopted to experienced dog owners. I felt experienced having had dogs my whole life. Now I had a 1-2 year old abused husky that was developing leash aggression and was still shy around strangers. I was not confident she could be rehabilitated into my lifestyle.
Duke answered my call promptly and to the delight of many, he actually listened to my plight, and understood that I was “clickered out”. He also understood my time constraints and adapted the program so that I could achieve my goals with Massi. Duke’s friendly chit chat, I realized in time, was actually his way of finding out what the dog (and I) had been up to between sessions…and he would call me on some of the things he felt I could do better.
Training dogs, and their owners, requires a high degree of organization and preparation as well as the ability to give clear and concise instructions. Able to adapt to constant changes in temperament of both Massi, and myself, while offering creative solutions to a variety of situations that the dog came into while on the island, Duke proved himself. He is a take-charge person and carries out his role confidently and with the ability to look at the big picture. I am grateful for all Duke accomplished over the course of a month. I would not hesitate to recommend Duke and Kings County K9 Academy (now UPK9), and do so with the knowledge that any task he is asked to do will be handled efficiently and with the individual dog and owner in mind.

Matthew & Kristen with Fergus

He didn’t know it yet, but Fergus had eaten his last cake off of the kitchen counter when I contacted Duke! We had tried group lessons and our own training efforts with no success, with every passing day we were feeling more hopeless and frustrated with Fergus’ behavior. Duke had been recommended to us, and we were not disappointed! From the very first lesson Duke had us feeling more positive and in control in our relationship with Fergus. With every lesson, Duke not only showed us how to train Fergus effectively, but more importantly, he trained us to be more effective owners. This has given us a new beginning with Fergus and the promise of a long and happy life together.
