Finding and contacting Duke Ferguson at Unleashed Potential for dog training on the internet was a life changer for me as I was nearly at the end of my tether. My husband and I have a young german shepherd which we have trained from a puppy and having had other german shepherds presumed things would go forward in the normal way, but we were wrong. Vida was a challenge from the start.

Hyper, high drive and over the top behaviour from a baby. Never seemed to be able to relax, unable to control herself, pulling, lunging, jumping with excitement when meeting and greeting other dogs and people (very friendly) over the top with excitability and energy and yes, she got plenty of exercise. In fact, I wish I knew then what I know now that the frequent advice from well-meaning people including most trainers that a tired dog is a well-behaved dog is not applicable to all dogs, they just get fitter and are still hyper and raring to go! Tried all sorts of collars, halters, natural calming remedies etc with no success. I could go on and on. It was exhausting and very frustrating.

I had not considered an e collar as they get very bad press in the UK and I asked a trainer if they thought it might be worth trying and was told that I should NOT consider using one. I then started looking on the web to find a site that might give me more information.

We live in the U.K. so when I saw Duke’s website I nearly didn’t contact him because I thought he may not want to get involved due to the obvious distance but thank goodness I did. I purchased an e-collar and some training videos from him. as well as doing some Skype consults one-on-one. His training methods combined with this collar are great! He uses it in a way to encourage correct behaviour in all aspects of training, it was a real eye-opener for me.

The result was that his advice very soon produced results with our dog and I cannot thank him enough! Duke is an excellent trainer and I would recommend anyone with a problem dog to contact him, wherever in the world they live! You will get great results and service.

When Other Trainers failed this schnauzer Unleashed Potential made the difference in this dogs life!

– Dear Unleashed Potential, I wanted to write and say a Huge THANK YOU!! for all of your help with Ginger. As you know, before we met you, we worked with TWO other dog trainers and felt like we had tried everything. 100% positive reinforcement training, and then correction based methods. Despite all of our work with her, Ginger was still almost impossible to walk because she would bark and lunge at dogs, growl at children, and bark at anyone who tried to speak to us on the street. It was so bad that we would get up before dawn so we could walk her when no one else was around. We had pretty much given up until I found your website.

Since starting to work with you we have seen such amazing progress!

I never thought I would say that I now enjoy walking our dog, and after going through private, semi private classes and now group classes, I am beyond shocked to say that we are now working with her off leash at the park! 🙂

We still have work to do, but it is most notable is that Ginger seems to be building confidence and really seems like a happier dog. Our dog that used to be scared of everyone and everything, is becoming more curious and outgoing. It’s really remarkable to see. Throughout this process, I have been very impressed with your ability to match your recommendations to the individual needs of each dog. You truly care about dogs and their owners. Testimonial UPK9: PEI Aggressive Female Rotti Mix

Testimonial of an aggressive female Rotti Mix, 10 years old

In July 2012, I adopted a senior dog, Jessie. Her story was that her owner had died suddenly and her companion dog had been sold. Jess, as a Rotti mix, was considered surplus to her owner’s family, who suggested to the two ladies who were looking after her that she should be euthanized. It had been in my mind that I needed an older dog to get me back out walking and

to be a companion when my husband was away looking after ailing relatives in Ontario. Unfortunately, although Jess and I became attached to each other, she bit my husband when he came home from Ontario and he chose to correct her physically. I was very, very upset. My new best friend bit my oldest best friend.

I had heard about Duke Ferguson and his training skills from a a co-worker, it was clearly an excellent way to find a solution. I had decided that, should Jess be unable to be trained, she should not be passed on to become someone else’s problem. Jess spent 5 weeks with Duke and has been home for several weeks. She is a calmer, more settled animal and I have learned how to be a better dog manager. Our walks are delightful. She occasionally will bark to greet other dogs. She no longer reacts to people, joggers, cyclists or vehicles on our busy street where it seems the world and his neighbour all come to workout! She walks to heel very well, with the occasional determined sniff at something in the leaves too tempting to pass by. She and my husband are still wary of each other but I am sure that, given time and due care by myself to avoid a recurrent conflict between them, we will all settle into a nice blend of pet and people. She is a great companion, saw the election results out with me and my little cat last night. Thanks to Duke and his staff for teaching both Jess and myself how to conduct ourselves in a safe, non disruptive way as we share our home and surroundings with others!

A huge thank you to Duke and Lindsay of Unleashed Potential K9 PEI for giving us the tools we need to help Jacob and Marlee become all that they were meant to be. While their training will be ongoing they have come so far in only 3 sessions. Despite several people telling us that they would not make good companion dogs because of their high drive to follow a scent they are proving everyone wrong. The training we received has helped them to focus on us and the task at hand while they ignore their surroundings. This has saved, and will probably in the future, save their lives.

Without their help they were destined to be returned to where we got them from. Now there is no chance they will ever be anywhere but by our sides. They still have training ahead of them to fine tune a few things but they follow all the commands they’re given and have not “gone off on a hunt” once.

We have and will continue to recommend Unleashed Potential K9 Academy to anyone who is looking for some help with their dog. It has been worth every penny and every minute.

“We adopted our dog, a lab/rotti mix, almost two years ago. When we first brought her home things seemed to be going well but it didn’t take long for us to realize she had some behavioural problems and dog aggression that needed attention. She was crazy in the car, pulled on walks, would not come when called, and showed aggression toward other dogs. It got to the point where I dreaded taking her out for a walk as I felt entirely unable to control her. We consulted a couple trainers in the hopes that we could learn how to correct Sammy’s negative behaviours, however, the instruction we received did little to reduce her aggression or improve her obedience. Finally, I came across unleashed potentials website and got in contact with a trainer. After the very first lesson we saw drastic improvement in Sammy and within one month I was able to walk her with confidence. The trainer worked with us one-on-one to teach her basic commands that set the foundation for more advanced training. We progressed through semi-private lessons and on to group classes where Sammy interacts with other dogs off leash. Since we started training with Unleashed Potential over a year ago we’ve been able to do more with Sammy then we thought possible. We highly recommend Unleashed Potential. We now have a dog that we are so happy to have in our lives and we can’t thank Unleashed Potential enough!”
