Unleashed Potential Dog Trainer Presents at Eastern College in Halifax.

February 1, 2012 By Duke Ferguson Leave a Comment

I always love to see our upk9 dog trainers enjoying their career. 🙂 Getting invited to do presentations on TV, in community events, schools, businesses, and other small or large groups is just one of many fun things we get to do!

Among many presentations, one of the most requested presentations we do is on the truth abut different types of dog training methods, the pros and cons and the best ways to approach dog training for success in the real world. Other popular presentations we often do is bite prevention seminars. I’ll have to do a blog on that some day.

Here is what one of our Unleashed Potential Dog trainers writes in our Unleashed Potential blog:

“One of the things I love most about my career as a dog trainer with unleashed potential is that I have an opportunity to educate Veterinarians, Vet technicians, students, doggy daycare workers and pet store staff. Over the years I have learned a wealth of knowledge from some of the best dog trainers in North America, and I am more than happy to share that experience with those who want to learn more about dog training, aggression, rehabilitation and animal behavior. Today I had the great privilege of doing a seminar for the students of Eastern college in Halifax, all of the students were Vet technician students. I have to say it was really fun watching light bulbs turn on as people listened, connected, asked questions and had a really good time. At the end of the seminar I brought one of my dogs up to the class room to show how our training methods work. Automatically the entire classroom fell in love with BB my Belgian malinois , it was a great way to bridge the gap between theory and practical. I would like to thank Nadine at Eastern college for having me in, and inviting me back next year.”

Most of all they love our dogs!

I feel being a dog trainer is one of the best jobs there is, but in order to be good at it you not only need lots of knowledge and skill, you need to have a people personality and no fear of presenting in public. This is just one amongst many traits for success.

Keep on rocking in Halifax!!

Amazing Dog Training Results!! In Only One Lesson

January 29, 2012 By Duke Ferguson Leave a Comment

Meet Achilles and his owners:

We were to the point of thinking about giving our dog Achilles away, because we couldn’t take him for walks without fighting with him the whole time, he wasn’t aloud outside by himself because he would run right over to the neighbors house, and ignore us when we call him back.  We would have to put him in his crate before we have guests because he would jump up, and be constantly at them,  among other issues.
Then we thought what if we had a child that wasn’t doing what he was told and acted like he ruled the house would we give him away too?  We began to look for an alternative solution.
After the first 10-15 min in the intro class, Duke Ferguson from Unleashed Potential K9  worked with Achilles.

We could not believe the difference, he wasn’t pulling on the leash, he was paying attention to what was going on, he was obeying commands.  By the end of the session, Achilles would come and sit when told by us and the three kids.  Now at home, he stays beside me when working him, comes and sits when told and he lays down when told. This is only since our first lesson.
For the first time in months we are happy to have a dog, we enjoy working with him and seeing the changes and it has only been two days so far.

Thanks for your help,
The Gallants

Tyson the boxer: UPK9 Testimonial

November 24, 2011 By Duke Ferguson Leave a Comment

283702_10151612732331253_1440510720_n

Our dog Tyson:

We adopted a 2 year old Boxer named Tyson, he was “free”. Nothing in life is free, and Tyson was no exception. He came with a host of problems, skin allergies, separation anxiety, no manners, dog aggression and above all Tyson was a nightmare to walk! Tyson also thought kennels were for other dogs, not him. Tyson’s only redeeming qualities were he was really cute and he didn’t chew shoes.

I still remember writing my first email to Unleashed Potential; I had been home alone with our little treasure for two days and I was at the end of my rope.  We set up a date for The assessment for Tyson and he brought his well mannered dog to show what a well trained dog was capable of. We were very impressed with upk9’s philosophies so we decided to train with Unleashed Potential.

We decided on lifetime enrolment as the thought of having support at whatever stage Tyson was at in his life was a big bonus. So the lessons started and progressed very quickly. The Unleashed Potential trainer went to great lengths to insure we were doing well between visits and was very supportive and encouraging.

Tyson has come a long way since we started training. His manners are much improved, he runs to his kennel when asked and I can walk him by myself without fear of being pulled off my feet. His dog aggressive is no longer and he is a pleasure to take anywhere.

We are now attending group classes on Saturday afternoon, because we love to socialize with other dogs and their owners. UPK9 has helped us turn our misfit into a wonderful companion.  we cannot thank Unleashed Potential enough for all your guidance, support and assistance. This company offered us a solution, where other trainers could not.

We think You Guys Are The Best!

Sincerely

       – Sue, Brent and Tyson
